Inspired by a universal pictogram, ALTER EGO MOBILE is an aluminum figurine you can suspend in any space you like, inside as well as outside.
A lifetime of energy
No need to connect to the Internet or download an app to see it at work. It has no USB connection, no wires, no batteries, and yet, it has a lifetime of energy. It’s secret ? Simply air. Give it a little breeze and it will move forever. Give it some light and it will shine like a diamond. Knock it gently and it will reply to you instantly.
Aluminum, the ideal material
To faithfully reproduce the meaning of the pictogram, we wanted its material to be raw, resistant and light. Aluminum seemed to be exactly what we needed. Aluminum is not only the most abundant metal on Earth, but it’s very resistant and is almost three times lighter than steel. Therefore, your new mobile is light yet rock-solid! Furthermore, aluminum is the most recyclable metal.
The almost-invisible suspension wire and needle that we supply in the package will give your mobile a surprising impression of floating in the air. Even the smallest air displacement will get it to swirl around itself. Its movement is almost never-ending.
Two finishes with astonishing effects
All of our ALTER EGO MOBILES are top-quality objects made of solid aluminum. They’re unbreakable and will not rust. They measure 6 in. wide x 9 in. high x 1/8 in. thick (152 mm x 228 mm x 3.1 mm) and weigh 0.45 lb. (0.206 kg).
Chrome mirror finish
Chrome mirror ALTER EGO MOBILES are polished and finished by hand before we apply a nickel and chrome coating that gives them a mirror effect. Everything around its area of rotation will be reflected by the suspended figurine. A stylish object that will give your space a surprising effect. All chrome mirror ALTER EGO MOBILES are identical.
Brushed finish
Brushed finish ALTER EGO MOBILES are brushed and finished by hand before we apply a clear lacquer to preserve this shiny aluminum effect. Process and inspiration
ALTER EGO MOBILE is inspired by two distinct yet complementary professional paths. The first, more cartesian path, was in metal manufacturing while the second, more creative, in graphic design. My pragmatic and simplified approach to graphics and communications was definitely influenced by the metal industry. This is how I came to favour clear and concise concepts for my graphic design clientele.
For several years now, my passion for the visual arts guided me to explore metal wire figurine sculptures that I would hang from my ceiling. They are inspired by the pictogram found on traffic lights and pedestrian signs all around the world. I always thought this pictogram was an excellent representation of movement, action and determination. I found it inspiring to see these mobile figurines hang from a wire and freely move with the slightest touch or air current.
In 2020, at the height of the pandemic, my perception of the pictogram evolved. I now saw it as the antithesis of the COVID-19 symbol, which at first glance, evokes sickness, stagnation and seclusion. Since the spring of 2021, I developed this mobile for mass production so that you may also hang it in the space of your choice and give it the significance that inspires you.
I named it ALTER EGO MOBILE. It is available in two noble materials that are entirely recyclable: aluminum and paper. Hang it up and watch it in action. You’ll see, it will leave no one uninspired!
